Our operational eco-efficiency initiatives help reduce the negative impacts of our operations on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We focus on minimizing wastes disposed in landfills, increasingly procuring renewable energy sources, and reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions along our journey.
Reducing waste to landfills
Many Aptar facilities are working toward ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and landfill-free certifications. These ISO standards address various aspects of environmental and energy management. Our award-winning landfill-free certification, developed internally based off of the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA) protocol, requires facilities show, through third-party verification, that at least 90 percent of their wastes are reused or recycled.
You can view our global progress toward ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and landfill free certification here.
Energy Use and Reporting
Aptar has established Science Based Targets and is currently one of the many companies taking science-based climate action to keep global temperature increase to Well-Below 2° Celsius. Our energy and greenhouse gas emissions targets are now aligned with the latest climate science. In addition, Aptar developed an ISO 14064 compliant energy management system to map global greenhouse gas emissions and ensure accurate carbon accounting.
We believe that 100 percent of Aptar locations should be powered by renewable electricity sources. We have a target to procure at least 65 percent of our electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2021 and are on track to meet this target.
Aptar participates annually in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) assessment to report our energy, greenhouse gas and water management strategies and performance. Aptar has completed the supply chain questionnaire annually since 2008 and the water questionnaire since 2013. We have seen steady improvements in our scores and we are committed to maintaining our progress.
Our CDP responses can be found within our ESG Reporting Center.
