1881 Light Original makes its mark

Jul. 10, 12

With sustainability becoming an increasing concern, more and more companies are looking to lighten their environmental footprint.  Use of less material, through lower profile neck finishes  is one of the ways of achieving this.

The 1881 neck finish enables weight savings on the preform and also on the closure.  To cater for this new neck finish, Aptar Food + Beverage has developed the 1881 Light Original, which offers the same high performance as the successful Original range of sports closures and a 25% weight reduction.

The 1881 Light Original has been adopted by a number of brands in Europe, Ringnes Imsdal in Norway, Pepsi Toma Natura in Czech Republic, Oshee in Poland,  Erlan Biola in Ukraine and Aguas de Firgas in Spain, to name but a few.

After the first product launches in Europe in 2011, the move to 1881 neck finish is spreading to other regions.   In early 2012, the first product using the 1881 Light Original was on the shelves in Brazil.  Developed by Bioleve, based in Sao Paulo, Bio Kids is a still water in a format specially designed for children.  Moreover, Aptar’s 1881 Light Original is the first flip-top sport cap to be produced in Brazil.  The 1881 Light Original will also be available in Asia by end 2012..

The 1881 Light Original is available in a range of standard coloured spouts, with or without the SimpliSqueeze® valve for enhanced flow control.  The SimpliSqueeze® valve is in Swimming Silicone®, exclusive to Aptar and is compatible with the PET recycling stream.
